-With three wins this season, Mayer is currently leading the driver championship point standings by 30 points heading into the season finale. Mayer only needs to finish in 27th place, or better, to clinch the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship.
-Winning the K&N East championship would make Mayer the youngest driver to win a championship in any NASCAR series. Todd Gilliland currently holds the title with his K&N West championship at 16 years and five months. Mayer will be 16 years, three months and eight days on Friday.
-Mayer will be racing chassis 406 at Dover, which is the same Chevrolet he won with at both Bristol races this year.
-Crew chief Mardy Lindley has two wins in six K&N East starts at Dover, along with four top-five and four top-10 finishes. Lindley won as crew chief at Dover in 2016 and 2017.
–Mayer will pull double duty this weekend. After racing at Dover Friday, he heads to Indianapolis to compete in the ARCA race at Lucas Oil Raceway Saturday night. In seven ARCA events this season, Mayer has six top-five finishes.
“Having the opportunity to go out and potentially be the youngest driver to ever win a NASCAR championship is absolutely amazing. I can’t thank GMS Racing, Chevrolet and Drivers Edge Development enough for everything they have done this year to get me and my team where we are right now. I’m really excited to go back to Dover and have a shot to win, and to take home a championship.”
